“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once. But… history has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.”
~Michelle Obama
Feelings. Nothing but Feelings.
How are you feeling?
Seriously. How are you really feeling? Be honest.
Me? I’ve been angry. Frustrated. Incredulous.
I’ve also felt connected. Cared for. Content.
I recently explored my feelings and ran across a couple of great articles which allowed me to understand the myriad of emotions I am experiencing. Something tells me you may be able to relate.
I’ve learned that grief is the core of my distress. I haven’t lost anyone to this virus unlike the 60,000+ families who have. For that I am grateful. Rather my losses, like everyone else, center around the loss of what we knew to be our vibrant and active lives before the great pause. And for those of us with loved ones on the front lines, we are grappling with a unique and unprecedented kind of uneasiness.
Get High: A Runner’s High!
But don’t fear — get high! A runner’s high — or whatever kind of exercise you enjoy. As your endorphins kick in, suddenly things don’t seem so insurmountable. And if you have a quarantine-partner to run with, even better! But beware of running with individuals who are not in your household.
If we want to help our children navigate their complex emotions, it is important that we have the emotional bandwidth to do so.
So tell me, how are you feeling? I care.
Need a Kid’s Activity?
There are some newsletters that I absolutely can’t wait to receive! One of those newsletters is from my friend and amazing entrepreneur Jill Salzman of The Founding Moms. I find them refreshing, informative, and often very funny.
Her daughters have started their own inspirational newsletter for young people. Geared for kids aged 9-13, these gems from Miss Roses and Miss Sunshine are guaranteed to motivate your kids to get their quarantine-based homework done with a positive attitude. Check out their very first newsletters here and here, then subscribe your kids to it right away! They are simply delightful. Share with other parents and educators you may know.
